Sen. Preston

CHICAGO – To combat growing food insecurity and the affordability crisis, State Senator Willie Preston is teaming up with Walner Law and Living Fresh Market –the nation’s largest Black-owned supermarket – to host the Englewood Thanksgiving Food Drive.

“Hardworking folks shouldn’t have to worry about putting food on the table during the holidays,” said Preston (D-Chicago). “Thanksgiving is a time for family. Nothing brings family together like a warm meal made with love. I am proud to partner with Living Fresh Market and Walner Law to make sure everyone in the Sweet 16th has a happy Thanksgiving.”

The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 12-2 p.m. at 6900 S. Emerald St., the future site of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce.

The food drive will offer free grocery bags filled with essential Thanksgiving staples, as well as a grocery store gift card for a fresh turkey, ham or alternative protein. People can either walk or drive-thru the event for easy access.

“For over 50 years, our goal has been clear: to fight for the future of our clients. That same mission extends to the future of our city,” said Jon Walner, president and CEO at Walner Law. “Partnering with Senator Preston and Living Fresh Market to ensure our Englewood neighbors have a meal is not just charity; it is the duty of every firm that calls Chicago home. We are here to serve, both in and out of the courtroom.”

The initiative is expected to serve between 200–300 families, providing essential holiday items and combating food insecurity during one of the most important times of the year.
