Howard Brookins III serves as Chief of Staff to State Senator Willie Preston, overseeing the daily operations of both the district and Capitol offices. In this role, he manages constituent services, coordinates policy development, and helps implement the Senator’s legislative and community engagement strategy. Howard plays a key role in organizing events, building partnerships with local and state stakeholders, and ensuring the office remains responsive to the needs of the 16th District.

He holds a BBA in Public Policy and Economics with a minor in Political Science from The George Washington University. Before joining the Illinois Senate, Howard gained experience in political consulting, workforce management, and financial operations. He is passionate about public service, community-driven policymaking, and expanding opportunities for underserved communities. Howard is also preparing to attend law school, where he plans to further his work at the intersection of law, policy, and equity.

Mariah Rainey proudly serves as the District Office Manager for State Senator Willie Preston, where she plays a key role in community outreach, constituent services, and district operations for the Sweet 16th Senate District.

A proud graduate of Bogan High School (Class of 2012), Mariah began her career in the banking industry, where she spent seven years at TCF Bank (now Huntington Bank). She worked her way up from teller to assistant branch manager, gaining valuable experience in leadership, financial services, and customer relations.

Following her time in banking, Mariah joined Aramark at Soldier Field as a Human Resources Administrative Assistant and Staffing Coordinator, where she managed employee relations and staffing logistics for large-scale events and operations.

Now, in her current role with Senator Preston’s office, Mariah brings her passion for people, organization, and public service to the forefront — serving as a trusted resource for constituents within the community she calls home.
